Cергей Лозница

Born in 1964 in Baranovichi, Belarus (USSR). In 1987 graduated from the Kiev Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Applied Mathematics. In 1987–1991 he worked as a scientist at the Kiev Institute of Cybernetics, specializing in artificial intelligence research. He also worked as a translator from Japanese. In 1997 he graduated from VGIK, where he studied feature filmmaking. He has been making documentary films since 1996, and he has directed 12 non-fiction films including montage film “Blockade” (2005) based on the archive footage of besieged Leningrad. Laureate of numerous international and national awards, winner of Russian film awards “Nika” and “Laurel”. His feature debut “My Joy” (2010) was awarded the Best Director’s Prize and the Prize of the Russian Film Critics’ Guild at the Russian fesitval “Kinotavr” in Sochi, won awards at the international film fesivals in Vologda, Yerevan, Anapa, Kiev, Minsk and Tallinn. His second feature film “In the Fog” (2012) premiered in the Competition program of the Cannes IFF, where got FIPRESCI Prize. Last year this film also recieved the Grand Prix of the Andrei Tarkovsky International Film Festival “Zerkalo”.
