Heart-wrenching film based on real-life events relates the story of an absurd and tragic case of exorcism in an Orthodox monastery in Eastern Europe. Alina and Voichita, who grew up together at the orphanage, were once very close, but later went their separate ways. CRISTIAN MUNGIU
Born in 1968 in Iasi, Romania. Studied English literature at the University of Iasi, later worked as a teacher and a journalist. Studied film directing at the University of Film in Bucharest. Graduated in 1998. Following a number of shorts directed his first feature “West”, which premiered at the Cannes IFF in 2002 and won prizes at several other festivals. His second feature “4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days” won the Palme d’Or and 2 more prizes at Cannes in 2007, was named the Best Film of the Year in San-Sebastian and won many other awards.
