DOMINIC WANTS TO TELL STORIES

Author Dina Karaman

The film is based on the author’s conversation with an illegal immigrant from Africa who came to Europe to earn money. The problem of representing someone else’s traumatic experience on the screen lead to the blending of documentary and live-action cinema. One of the topics of the film is the interaction of the protagonist and the author. Dominique’s story is no different from millions of others and is not limited to specific social and political problems. The loss of identity and the sense of loneliness that the character feels, make his experience universal, while the stream of the confession is juxtaposed with the cyclic and ritualized actions of the character on-screen. The film gradually splits into several plains delineating the author, the character and the real person, and leaving each of them to face himself and his story.
