A series of interviews with Russian public figures, prominent in their fields and by consequence having an influence on modern life. Alexander Sokurov talks to representatives of the national elite, who are bound to think in broad categories and by associations, to have a definite opinion about everything going on in the world and to promote general welfare. The global nature of questions which suddenly seem out of beat often catch the interlocutor off guard and the viewer gets food for thought about the particular person and the prospects of the contemporary world. The Festival will screen three episodes of the project “Intonation”: Alexander Sokurov’s conversations with the lawyer Yuri Shmidt, the composer Sergey Slonimsky and the philologist Boris Averin.
