Studied acting in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Started his career in the Regents-Park open theater, since the end of 1980-ies performed in the Royal National Theater. He played Ivanov in A.Chekhov’s play staged by “Almeida” London theater - Fiennes presentation of a broken and almost deranged man was pretty convincing.

In 2011 – jury chairman of “Zerkalo” YI Film Festival in Ivanovo named after Andrey Tarkovsky.

January 2012 - visited Moscow for pre-premiere presentation of “Coriolanus” and a brief meeting with his admirers in “Afimall-City”.

Two “Oscar” nominations. 11 other awards and 20 nominations.
