How and when do the features that shape a child’s character manifest themselves? Most likely they can be discerned everywhere and in everything, but most importantly in his actions. The filmmakers suggest that we should observe the child during the New Year holiday ablaze with fireworks, illuminations and colorful toys. Moreover, it is a celebration in the Kremlin with the real Father Christmas and the biggest fir-tree. It is there that the child is left alone among five thousand other children for several hours. The film is about discovering big things in minor events, it shows how a chain of events reveals the child’s character, how cowardice, bravery, fear, servility and desire for freedom appear.
