Willem Barentsz discovered archipelago Spitzbergen in 1596. At the same time it appeared on Russian maps under the name Holy Russian Islands. In 1920 it became a Norwegian territory Svalbard. Forty six states have the right to carry out commercial and scientific activity there. But nowadays only Russia takes advantage of this privilege. This country even has there its own settlement Barenburg where season workers live. Tourists call it Island of Communism.
